What’s HD security camera?

HD = High Definition. HD formats start at 1280×720, Known as 720P. Today’s video surveillance industry, we have analog high definition and digital high definition. Current HD resolution formats include 1.0 megapixel (720p), 1.3 megapixel, 2 megapixel (1080p), 3 megapixel, 5 megapixel, 8 megapixel (4K HD), and 12 megapixel (4K Ultra HD).

 

Benefits of HD Cameras

First, compared with standard definition, HD increases the size of the image, while improving the image quality through many different image enhance technologies such as progressive scanning, such as DNR (digital noise reduction), WDR (wide dynamic range), etc. HD offers superior image quality.

HD cameras can monitor a wider area than conventional CCTV camera. For example, a 12 megapixel panoramic camera can come in a fisheye lens giving you 360 degree panoramic view. Equipped with a 12 megapixel image sensor and ePTZ (virtual pan/tilt/zoom), as well as split views, it can replace several conventional security cameras; greatly reducing the installation cost and maintenance fee.

Dahua Vs Hikvision

Two of the biggest names in HD camera solutions are Hikvision and Dahua, both of whom are major contenders in the video surveillance market overall; Hikvision, for example, doesn’t just create HD analogue solutions, but focuses on every other aspect of video security currently in use by businesses and higher-end domestic properties.

Dahua’s major product for the HD analogue market is HD CVI. When it was first revealed, HD CVI was said to combine the simplicity and price of analogue with complete HD video.

Hikvision, however, (in association with Techpoint) released HD TVI CCTV soon after which immediately seemed to improve upon the quality of HD CVI.

Now, approximately a year after the release of HD CVI, our team of specialists have decided to take another look at the two formats to double check whether HD-TVI CCTV still has the advantage over its competitor.

HD TVI Versus HD CVI

Which Has The Most Diverse Range?

Now, in terms of range, there is no denying that Dahua has the slight advantage. Dahua have around 50 cameras in their range, whilst Hikvision have a little over 20 different models. All of Hikvision’s designs are designed as either bullets or domes, which gives them an advantage in terms of style, whilst Dahua seems to focus primarily on larger-scale cameras.

Which Is The Most Suitable For Hybrid DVR?

All Hikvision Turbo HD models support analogue cameras on all forms of input, along with a number of IP channels. The only real issue with Hikvision models is that there is very little in terms of third-party support, meaning that video surveillance systems work best when using Hikvision products entirely, although there are many ways that certain systems can be integrated and updated to HD TVI CCTV with very little trouble.

When it comes to Dahua, their wider range is let down by the fact that, if you want any integration at all, you need to purchase the more expensive Tribrid models.

Which Is Easier To Maintain?

This is where the Hikvision cameras really pull ahead of Dahua models. Hikvision works with many partners across Europe and the Americas, and also provides dedicated support when required. Dahua, for their part, are fairly poor in terms of support as they depend on their partners for sale, and there are very few companies which use Dahua products outside of China.

Many of these partners also sell only a limited selection of Dahua’s range, which can make them much more difficult to get hold of in the first place, and can also make finding repairs or replacements that much harder.

HD-CVi & HD-TVi Technologies

HDTVI (High Definition Transport Video Interface) is the HD Video transmission Interface. HDTVI technology can be implemented in existing simulation on a transmission line reliable kop HD video signal transmission. The core of HDTVI technology is HDTVI chip, on the front end cameras and back-end encoder respectively increase the sending and receiving chip, improve data transmission distance, through a advanced image processing technology and back-end encoding technology, further enhance the image quality, at the same time, avoids the shade of the simulation system inherent CVBS crosstalk phenomenon, the luminance and chrominance separation thoroughly. In other words it is a Respectably High Quality Image.

The name has to do with its baseband and quadrature amplitude modulation technology, which is able to avoid CVBS cross talk, completely separate brightness and hue signal, and further enhances video quality. The HDCVI solution incorporates both cameras and DVRs. The system is star topology structured — the DVR serves as a node for an over coax P2P (Point-to-Point) transmission to the camera. The technology offers two specifications: 1080p (1920×1080) and 720p (1280×720). In addition, the technology features the Auto Signal Compensation (ASC) patent, which only allows an extremely low signal distortion along long-distance transmissions.

In addition, the technology features the Auto Signal Compensation (ASC) patent, which only allows an extremely low signal distortion along long-distance transmissions.

Long-distance Transmission

Transmitting data over 500m over a coaxial cable can be realized, depending on the cable selected. Cable 75-3 and 75-5 are recommended for transmissions within 500m, cable 75-5 and above for over 500m.

3 Signals in 1 Coaxial Cable

HD-CVI composites video, audio, and control signals together and then transmits them over one coaxial cable, simplifying installation.

To further realize multiple-signal transmission over one cable, both audio and dual-way data communication signals are embedded in a blanking zone. This enhances synchronization with the video signal and supports a max sampling rate of 44.1kHz thanks to ASC.

The forward and reverse data channels are composited in the frame blanking zone, realizing a two-way end-to-end transmission to support control commands such as camera focus, PTZ control, real-time alarm, etc. The forward outputting data supports a high transmission baud rate, as the sending time and electric signal baud rate are predictable, and the receiving end is of high ASC performance.

On the contrary, the reverse outputting data supports a lower baud rate due to its low signal frequency and limited data, which are affected by impedance matching and channel transmission uncertainty. However, by adopting ASC, the reverse channel can restore some degree of electrical signal during long-distance transmission.

The HD-CVI solution can not only render smooth HD transmission during long-distance transmissions, but is also free from IP hassles and allows for simple installation; it also features a no-latency capability for real-time performance. With no need for compression processing to maintain its original video quality, it is able to present good quality vivid images. In comparison with other analog systems, HD-CVI has an advantage on the transmission distance front, as it can transmit 500m by using 75-3 cable for general transmission media and features a low signal distortion rate.

In a word, HD-CVI not only provides a good solution that offers megapixel image quality over long-distance transmission, but also ease of installation.
